What if the 2016 Camaro isn't what we think it is?

What if this is just a ruse? Considering how GM got embarassed when Jalopnik showed us the new C7 long before its unveil. What if we are looking at the 2016 Camaro with cardboard body panels covered in camo to make it appear as if it's not changing dramatically? hmmmmmmm...

No but seriously, it might be like the Hyundai Sonata where the exterior gets minor changes and the mechanicals and interior get redesigned.

It’s a Camaro. It was a copy of a Mustang when it was made. Still is trying to catch up as well.

The split grille makes it Look like a Pontiac. Did GM come to their senses?!

Could it be the new Pontiac Trans RX7amino?

Really? Last time I checked the outgoing 5th gen SS 1LE still gets around the track faster than the new GT w/ the Performance Package.

Hm, how bout you put it against the BOSS 302, or the ‘15 cause the 1LE is in the ‘15 class now as well. The Camro will always be a knock off Mustang. Chevy was mad they didn’t get it cause they declined the idea of it.

Why would I compare the 1LE with the Boss 302? The 1LE package is on par price-wise as the Performance Pack on the GT..

And those comparisons were against the new 2015 Mustang. I don't get where you're going with this one.

I know they Did the ‘14 GT PP against the 1LE I didn’t know they did an updated test. I’m saying the Chevy isn’t good.

The ‘16 Camaro is also supposed to be getting the 6.2 LT1 from the new Vette which is miles better than the Camaro’s current 6.2 LS3. Pair that with Magnetic Ride Control and a smaller, improved platform and you're already looking at some serious performance improvements.

Exactly, the new Camaro will probably have close to the same (if not better) handling capabilities of the ATS Coupe.

I'm going to say better, as it will be given a more performance focused setup. Based on the como'd up version above it looks like the greenhouse is a bit bigger, so visibility will be improved somewhat (didn't bother me much anyway when I test drove a gen 5).

Kinja'd!!!1

I’d have to agree with you there! The suspension will have to be a bit more beefed up as well to handle the V8s weight and power. The greenhouse does seem somewhat better than the gen5. It bothered me when the car first came out but seeing how every car has a high belt line and tiny windows now it don't find it that bad.

Nah. The base car isn’t changing much because 1) 1st or 2nd (depending on the month or year when your taking score, either way its +/-4k cars with the Mustang) best selling coupe in the US, sooooo no reason at all for big changes and 2) Refresh means the hardpoints aren’t going anywere. Gonna need to throw out everything and start over if you want a radically different Camaro.

Lol, no, you can take your tinfoil hat off ;) I’m sure GM doesn’t care that much about Jalopnik. The dramatic change is the platform, we’ve already known that the styling was going to be more evolutionary.

Dude, what? I grew up in Ford family too, but geez.

Also the more apt comparison would be ZL1 vs Boss 302, and that’s a driver’s battle.

Still is trying to catch up as well.

You mean the Mustang that just had to add IRS because how much better the Camaro performs with it? You mean that kind of catching up? Or how about the new GT-350 that adds MRS which the Camaro ZL1 has also had for years. That kind of catching up?

Ha! No matter what you bias is. You gotta admit its funny a bigger, heavier car on an older platform is faster than an all new hawtness Mustang.

I just shed a single tear, imagining how wonderful this would be if it were true. It doesn’t even need a V8. There, I said it. Just give me this with the 2.0L Turbo 4, a 6-speed, and an LSD and I’ll be happy.

I am kind torn between thinking all camaros should be v8 and how awesome would it be to have a brutal turbo rwd i4 car as fast as a camaro. but maybe they should just do both.

I agree with your sentiment that all Camaros should be V8s. I was mainly referring to your pic of the Code 130R, which was closer to the size of a BRZ. Then again, turbo-4’s work in the new Mustang. As much as I’m a Chevy guy, if my car got totaled today, I’d probably replace it with a ‘Stang turbo-4 with the performance pack. I think it’s just that good, and I had an ‘11 V-6 Camaro as a rental a couple years ago, and it was a huge pig of a car.

But I really just wish they’d build the Code 130R already. Keep it <3,000lbs and give it the turbo-4 and make it a new Nova.
